What is the GAD?
The GAD (German Astronomical directory) is a database of all astronomical institutions in the German-speaking countries. The different kinds of the astronomy are equally represented. Private observatory, astronomical association or club, public observatory, school observatory or research institute, everyone get an entry in the GAD. The entry in the GAD is free. Only in extremely rare cases, I give the permission to use the addresses of the GAD for a mass mailing.
History
When I created my first www site for the Archenhold observatory, I noticed that there were directories over the professional astronomy in the net, but not over amateur astronomy. Also the search engines supply only incomplete results. So I started GAD in December 1994.
Where to find?
You can find GAD at www.astronomie.de/gad/ and at www.sternklar.de/gad. Both copies are equal. www.sternklar.de is my own web site and www.astronomie.de is a good starting point for everybody looking for astronomical information in german.
